The ABC's of Salvation
Becoming a Christian is not about joining a church or being baptized,
but it is about accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. God's
plan of salvation is simple enough for everyone to understand.
Admit
Admit to God that you are a sinner. Everyone needs salvation. Sin is a refusal to acknowledge God's authority over our lives. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Since none of us is perfect, all of us are sinners. “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19). The result of sin is spiritual death. That means eternal separation from God. Admitting that you are a sinner and separated from God is the first step of repentance which is turning from sin and self and turning toward God. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23)
Believe
Believe in Jesus Christ as God's Son and receive Jesus' gift of forgiveness from sin. God loves each of us and offers us salvation. Although we have done nothing to deserve His love and salvation, God wants to save us. In the death of Jesus on the cross, God provided salvation for all who would repent of their sins and believe in Jesus. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). God said our sins were laid upon Jesus and he died in our place. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Commit
Commit your life to Jesus. To commit your life to Jesus is to trust him with every part of your life. Trust Him to be your Savior and Lord. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). Confess your faith in Jesus Christ. “If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation” (Romans 10:9-10). Believe that Jesus Christ was the one who carried your sins, died in your place, was buried, and then resurrected by God. “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
Now is the time to accept Jesus as your Savior. “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).
Say a simple prayer: Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner and I ask that You forgive me of all my sins. I believe You are the Son of God and that You died on the cross and rose again from the grave. I ask You to come into my life and save me. Thank You for loving me. Amen
Begin your walk with Jesus Christ:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 1:8-9)
